This is one of three lions resting next to the road at the Nairobi Game Park.  We stopped to take pictures and they hardly acknowledged we were there.  It was around noon and they had been sleeping.
This was a little oasis in the middle of a dry area in the game park.  Lots of ducks and birds were playing in the water.
Lee is lucky there were no crocodiles in this pond.  At least I don't think there were.....
Mt. Kenya National Park.  We started hiking at 10,000' and hiked for a couple of hours before the clouds covered the mountain.  Our guide's name was Ephriam.

This is a view of the valley below where we were hiking.  It was lush and green and there was water seeping out of the hillside.  We didn't ever get a good view of Mt. Kenya because of the cloud cover.  Earlier this week two helicopters from Uganda crashed into the mountain because of the weather conditions.

The scenery in this area reminded us of the movie, "Lord of the Rings", and we looked for hobbits to appear any moment.  It was so quiet and peaceful on the mountain and very beautiful.
Back at the sub station with our guide, Ephriam.
Just as we were getting ready to leave, this school bus came chugging up the hill and then got stuck in the mud.  The teacher ordered the school children to get behind and start pushing...amazingly enough, it worked!
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes!  We clapped & cheered for them.
About a quarter of a mile down the road there was another school bus stuck against the side of the hill.  Two British military men told the driver they would report it to the rangers and have them send a tractor.  We pray all these children made it home safely that night.
The only animals we saw in the park were baboons and some bushbacks and they were right at the gate.  They told us we needed a guide to protect us from the wild animals.
This is the river lodge where we stayed.  The landscaping was beautiful and there was a stream running close to the cabins.  It was peaceful and beautiful there.  Lee and I took some spooky night walks along the river.
We stopped on the side of the road to take a picture of the mountains and a woman thought we were taking pictures of her and her children so she sent two dogs after us...
Lee & Elder Olsen at the giraffe sanctuary...
Wart hogs are prehistoric-looking creatures...
Baby elephants, on the other hand, are adorable and funny.
Lee couldn't take his eyes off the elephants.  These Elephants have been orphaned because of poaching.  They are kept safe until they are about three years old and then re-introduced into the wild.
Women wear the most unique hair styles here...They are very creative.  This young women was beautiful.
After they are fed huge bottles of milk, these elephants play a while and then go back into the bush and another group comes out to be fed.  They are funny...flappy ears and playful trunks.
Now we are at the Nairobi Game Park.  It covers a huge area and the animals live in the wild.  They are not fed so they hunt and forage for themselves.
Vultures in the treetops.
Zebras were everywhere.
Not sure what this was called, but it was very large and there were many of them.
This is a water buffalo and he was standing right next to the road.
Ostrich eggs hold the equivalent of two dozen chicken eggs.
There were many giraffes....beautiful!
Helloooooo!
There was a family of baboons next to the road....funny to watch.
Tatonka Lee with a collection of skulls..turtle, zebra, antelope, gazelle, rhino, water buffalo, giraffe, etc.
Lee was seized by a hippo and it hurt a lot...
This was one of the few places you are encouraged to get out of your car.  We went for a short hike with a guide who carried a rifle.  He told us this crocodile opens his mouth to cool his body.
This baby crocodile was a ways down the river bank from the grown one.
Amazing...
Pictures do not do justice, but imagine this huge horizon with this giraffe standing on top of the hill...it was beautiful.
It's hard to see, but there were three male lions sleeping about 20' from the road.
